This easy crock-pot apple butter only takes a few minutes to prep, and then you can let it cook all day. Something really neat about apple butter and even sauces, you can use as many or as few apples to make the amount you want.
Cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg are the spices that season this super easy apple butter. It’s perfect with a piece of toast or some biscuits with soup.
I first made apple butter a while ago with some friends, and it was delicious! Then, one year I gave all my sisters apple butter for Christmas, and I think it was a hit.
Here’s the recipe:
Ingredients
- 6 apples (cored and peeled)
- 1 ½ tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground cloves
- ½ tsp ground nutmeg
- Pinch of salt
Instructions:
Once you have cored and peeled the apples, you can chop them any way you want. I’ve found cutting into 6ths has worked well.
Plop your apples in your crock-pot, add the spices and apple cider, then put on low for 7-8 hours. If you want it to be done sooner, you can put it on high for 3-4 hours.
Stir once in a while, so they don’t stick. When the apples are soft, take the cover off and let the juice evaporate a bit.
When it’s done cooking, put it in a blender to make it nice and smooth.
That’s all! Super easy and doesn’t take a ton of prep time.
Notes:
- If you like a chunkier apple butter, then keep the peels on
- There isn’t any added sugar in this recipe, but if you like it sweeter, feel free to add some after it’s blended together.
Now, go use those old apples and make some apple butter!
