Some of my Favorite Things About Winter

Each season has its pros and cons, and today I’m going to share some of my favorites from winter! The cold from the season isn’t a favorite, but there are lots of other things that are great that come from winter.

Just the other day, it was one of the coldest days of the year (low 30s). North Carolina has dug its roots deep into me already, becoming more southern than northern. I know it’s not nearly the coldest weather, but man I was freezing. But since it is North Carolina, it shot right back up to 40s and 50s.

Here are a few favorite things about Winter:

Snow

As I write this now, we are heading into a storm this weekend, mostly ice, but I think it’s gonna snow a little. I am so excited! One thing I miss from the north, not the cold, but the snow and sledding. We had this big hill near our house that we would go sledding whenever it snowed. Sometimes my brothers would pour water on the hill to freeze over during the day, then we’d go sledding again in the evening. So fun, and I miss it so much!

Cozies

Just like in the fall, you can get out all the cozie socks, sweaters, and blankets to get nice and cozy. Turn on the fireplace (or tv fireplace), with some of your favorite music. It’s one of my favorite ways to write, brings in the mood, and helps the juices to start flowing.

The Foods

Soups, chowders, hot cocoa with marshmallows, hot chicken pot pie. All so delicious! The soups and chowders are only made in fall and winter, perfect for a cold day. Writing this, I thought about specific desserts we make for during the winter that aren’t associated with Christmas. I couldn’t think of any and I’m still trying to figure out at least one. I’ll update you if one comes to mind. Each food for each season is special because when it goes we can be excited for it to come again.

Here are some recipes that are perfect for a winter day! Some of the recipes are mine and some are others.

Christmas

Then, of course, Christmas has to be on this list. It’s probably what makes winter exciting, along with entering a new year. The cookies, movies, family, friends, and eating tons of food! Imagine a winter without Christmas, like in Chronicle of Narnia, “always winter but never Christmas”.

About Me

Welcome to Becky’s Kitchen Corner! I am so happy to see that you are here today. My name is Rebekah, but around here I’m known as Becky. I love to be in the kitchen, cooking and baking up a storm. Though, I don’t like cleaning up the storm as much, ha!

I’m from Pittsburgh and now living in a much sunnier state of North Carolina. I am the youngest of 8 kids and so growing up, I had lots of people to eat up my baked goodies.

In the daytime, I work as a nanny for my sister and brother-in-law to care for my adorable, silly nephew.
