These Easy Chocolate Chip Sourdough Waffles are some of my favorites! It’s a nice basic waffle, but with the addition of chocolate, it becomes an extraordinary, buttery waffle!
They’re super easy to make and only take a couple of simple ingredients. My nephew loves helping me make these and will ask to make some of these throughout the week. I like to make these in bulk and freeze them.
So you may be wondering, do these freeze well? Yes! I have tried other waffle recipes to freeze and I never ate them because they never crisped up nicely. But these reheat really nicely and freeze well!
Does the chocolate get stuck on the waffle maker? No! I never added chocolate to my waffles because of that. But I chopped up the chocolate small so it goes right into the batter.
Should I use discarded or active sourdough starter? Either is fine! I don’t usually have enough active starter so I use my discard. Though, I need to save enough because I make these pancakes pretty much every day. If you used all active, they may be really thick and may not be able to close your waffle maker all the way.
Now off to the recipe!
Easy Chocolate Chip Waffles
Ingredients
- 4 Eggs
- 1 Cup Butter melted
- 3 Tbsp Maple Syrup
- 3 Cup Clabber soured raw milk, you can use any milk though
- 2 Cup Sourdough starter either active or discard
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 2 Cup Einkorn Flour
- 2 Cup All-purpose Flour
- 2 tsp Baking Soda
- 1.5 tsp Salt
- 1 Cup Chocolate Chips chopped
Instructions
- Wisk the eggs, butter, maple syrup, milk, and starter together. Then, add all of the other ingredients.
- Heat up your waffle maker and then cook them
- Store in a glass container or plastic bag and put them in the fridge
- To freeze, put them in a ziplock bag or any way you like to store freezer things
- Enjoy!
Notes
- I always add more chocolate chips in the end to make bursts of chocolate in every bite!
- Make sure you fold the batter over before you spoon it into the maker. The chocolate chips will sink to the bottom of the bowl
- You can use all AP flour if you don’t have einkorn flour
- Once they’re off the waffle maker, I like to put them on a wire rack to cool so they don’t get soggy
- If you don’t want to use all butter, you can use half butter and half coconut oil
