Today I’m going to share with you some fun food ideas that you can make into different shapes! Since it’s the beginning of February, these are all going to be hearts, but you can make them into any cookie-cutter shape you have!
I think you could do this with pretty much any solid food. Writing this is making me want to experiment with all different things like mashed potatoes and meatloaf, ha!
Down below are some of my favorites to do! All of them, you will need to make first, then you will take your cookie cutter and make your wanted shape! Of course, it doesn’t change the taste, but makes it more fun to eat and more special, especially for your kids!
Easy Pink Heart Pancakes
First and personally, my favorite are these easy pink heart-shaped pancakes! They’re naturally colored, so no artificial stuff! Cook these, and then all you need to do is get your cookie cutter and cut the heart shape into it. Super easy and super fun!
Heart Toast and Sandwiches
This would be a fun addition to breakfast or lunch! It’s super easy and simple but adds just a tiny bit of effort for excitement!
Heart Scotch-a-Roos
Oh, Scotch-a-roos, one of my favorite desserts around Christmas time. But I didn’t get around to them last year, so I made them this week since I was still craving them. Like most of the other things, you let it harden and then take the cutter and cut. They did go in the fridge to harden faster, but it did make it harder to cut. If you have more time, I’d suggest that you would let them harden on the counter at room tempterature.
Recipe:
- ¼ cup butter
- ½ c peanut butter
- 10oz marshmallows
- 6 cups rice Krispie cereal
- 1 cup butterscotch chips
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Grease a 9×13 well and set aside
Get a bowl you’re going to mix in, a pot, and make a double boiler. Add an inch or two of water at the bottom of the pan, and then set the bowl on top. Melt the butter and peanut butter, then add the marshmallows, and let those melt together.
Take the bowl off, add the rice Krispie cereal and mix. Pour the mixture into the 9×13 and pat down.
In another bowl, put the butterscotch and chocolate chips in and melt them together. Once melted, spread on the rice Krispies and set aside to harden.
Once they harden, cut them into squares, or use a cookie cutter for a special shape!
Notes:
- Mini marshmallows will melt and mix easier
Heart cookie
These would be perfect for a party or a small gathering! Imagine how cute they would be on a pretty plate! What I did for this one was cook the cookie normally and then when it’s cooling on the pan, gently press the cutter into it. Again gently wiggle it so the sides come away and remove the cutter. I found it better to cut into the cookie when it was 30-60 seconds out from the oven. Just the same delicious cookies except in a fun heart shape!
Note:
- I’ve only done chocolate chip cookies; other kinds will differ. If the recipe doesn’t say to cool on the pan for a few minutes, I’d cut and remove it right away.
- This recipe is one of my favorites! I like to make the dough, then freeze them, so I can bake a cookie whenever!
